Smiling Mature Man Pointing at White Teeth After Cosmetic Dentistry Treatment

When several teeth need attention at once, whether from years of wear, old dental work that has run its course, or a combination of decay and damage, it can feel overwhelming to figure out where to start. A full smile restoration brings all of those needs together into one coordinated plan, so instead of tackling problems one at a time, you and your dentist map out a path that gets your whole mouth back to health, comfort, and confidence.

At the practice of Travis J. Calhoun, DDS, Asheville families have trusted us with exactly this kind of comprehensive care for over 30 years. Dr. Calhoun grew up in this community, trained at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and built his practice on the idea that every patient deserves the same care he would want for his own family. When your smile needs more than a single procedure, we take the time to understand the full picture before recommending a plan.

What Does a Full Smile Restoration Involve?

A full smile restoration is not one single treatment. It is a personalized combination of restorative services chosen to address the specific issues in your mouth, whether that means several teeth, a full arch, or a mix of concerns across your smile. Dr. Calhoun evaluates the health of your teeth, gums, and bite together, then builds a sequence of care that solves problems in the right order rather than treating each tooth separately.

For many patients, this means combining a few of the following: crowns to rebuild teeth that have lost structure, bridges to fill in gaps left by missing teeth, dentures for patients missing most or all of their teeth, fillings to repair decay, and restorations placed over existing dental implants. Since every mouth is different, no two smile restoration plans look exactly alike.

Crowns and Bridges for Damaged or Missing Teeth

Crowns cap a tooth that has been weakened by decay, a large filling, or a crack, restoring its strength and shape so it can function normally again. Bridges take this a step further, replacing one or more missing teeth by anchoring a replacement tooth to the crowns on either side of the gap. Together, these two treatments handle much of the rebuilding work in a comprehensive plan, and they are often paired with a filling or two to address smaller areas of decay along the way.

Dentures for Extensive Tooth Loss

When a patient has lost most or all of their natural teeth, dentures may be the right foundation for a full restoration. Dr. Calhoun fits both full and partial dentures, custom-made to support natural chewing function and a comfortable bite. For patients who already have dental implants in place, we also provide implant-supported restorations, giving dentures extra stability and a more secure fit.

How Long Does the Process Take?

Since a full smile restoration addresses multiple teeth or areas of the mouth, the timeline depends entirely on what your specific plan involves. Some patients complete their care in a handful of visits, while more extensive rebuilding can take several months from start to finish.

Dr. Calhoun walks you through the expected timeline before any work begins, so you know what to expect at each stage, which typically looks like the following:

  • Initial evaluation: A thorough exam identifies which teeth need crowns, bridges, dentures, or fillings, and in what order treatment should happen.
  • Treatment sequencing: Procedures are scheduled to protect your bite and comfort throughout the process, often starting with the teeth that need the most support.
  • Follow-up adjustments: Crowns, bridges, and dentures are checked and fine-tuned after placement to make sure your bite feels natural.

Why Choose Dr. Calhoun for Your Smile Restoration?

Comprehensive dental work requires a dentist who looks at the whole mouth, not just the tooth in front of him. Dr. Calhoun has spent over 30 years treating Asheville patients with exactly this approach, combining dental crowns, bridges, dentures, and fillings into plans built around each patient’s actual needs rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Our practice is also fee-for-service, which means Dr. Calhoun’s treatment recommendations are based on what is truly best for your mouth, not on what an insurance company will approve. We file insurance on your behalf and offer financing through CareCredit and Cherry, including 0% options, so cost does not have to stand between you and a healthy, comfortable smile. According to the American Dental Association, missing teeth can be replaced through several approaches, including bridges, dentures, and implants, each suited to different needs and levels of tooth loss.
